According to a source, the Green Bay Packers are showing “legitimate” interest in wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson who was released by the Panthers earlier this week. There is no word yet as to whether the team will make a stronger play for Johnson than they did for Moss.
Johnson, 35, was released by the Panthers to make way for rookie wide receiver Dwayne Jarrett. It was originally thought the team would keep Johnson around to mentor Jarrett, but Carolina had different plans in mind.
Green Bay could certainly use a player of Johnson’s caliber to add depth to the receiving corps. Donald Driver, who quietly finishes in the top 5-10 in every receiving category, is currently the only consistent receiver on the roster. Giving Favre a veteran weapon wouldn’t hurt the team’s chances in 2007.
